Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency (RE/EE) Outreach Program

Description of Activities

Reduce energy usage in retail stores, increase the energy efficiency awareness of customers in order to promote the purchase and use of energy efficient household items, and educate Dallas Independent School District (DISD) students and their parents regarding energy efficiency.

Deliverables & Environmental Results

Reductions in evaporative air emissions from parked cars, reduced NOx emissions from power plants due to reduced building cooling requirements; plus reduced stormwater runoff:

  • Retail stores sponsor customer outreach and incentives to spur energy efficiency/renewable energy
  • RE/EE Education Programs for DISD school children and their parents
  • Workshops at local school PTA meetings to explain and market RE/EE
  • Weatherization and RE/EE product implementation in 10 retail stores to demonstrate advantages and increase market penetration
  • Two-day Educational/Outreach Conference to enlist partners and provide sustainability assistance to the private and NGO sectors

Project TimelineProject Timeline

  • September 2007 – January 2008:  Partner Conference and sign-up, meet to design outreach program by retailers
  • January – March 2008: Outreach Workshops by retailers
  • September 2008 – May 2009: DISD Outreach programs
  • June 2008 – June 2010: Enlist partners’ assistance/in-kind services for Retail Store Weatherization & RE/EE Program; Install RE/EE materials and advertise results
